Aeons and the Yugas

 

 

Yugas are an Indian system of ages, slightly distinct from the Astrological Aeons but at the same time there is some correlation between them. The system presented by Swami Sri Yukteswar in the book The Holy Science shows the Astrological Aeons in the inner wheal. And this sort of follows the scheme in Hesiod. Hesiod was likely drawing on an older tradition from the East, that the doctrine of the Yugas is also flowing from. There is a large golden age that begins literally at the end of the last Ice Age, the silver age follows and begins in the sign of the moon, the Aeon of Cancer. The moon is traditionally associated with silver. Bronze age starts in the Aeon of Taurus ruled by the planet of copper, that is Venus. The Aeon of Aries, the sign of iron and Mars, is where the Kali Yuga starts. Kali Yuga starts with a massive lineup of planets as seen above. The other bronze age begins with the enlightenment and scientific revolution. Technological development promises to usher in another golden age.
